Hong Kong is one of the world’s major film production centres, and has emerged as the regional hub for sourcing and selling Asian films in recent years. Each year, around 40 to 50 locally produced and Mainland-Hong Kong co-produced films are released, accounting for an average of nearly 30% of local box office’s income in recent years.
CCIDA provides resources to different projects, ranging from the sponsoring of “Hong Kong International Film Festival”, to the implementation of various initiatives under the “Film Development Fund”, which include partial financing of local small-to-medium budget film productions, sponsoring of signature events such as “Entertainment Expo” and “Hong Kong Film Awards”, as well as launching of “First Feature Film Initiative”, “Directors’ Succession Scheme” and “Scriptwriting Incubation Programme” to nurture a new generation of filmmakers. Over the years, CCIDA has been assisting local film production, especially location filming in Hong Kong, and at the Government-to-Government level striving for more measures that can help Hong Kong films and filmmakers enter the Mainland market.
CCIDA also actively promotes Hong Kong films in the Mainland and abroad by organising film festivals in various overseas cities and staging events in the Mainland for appreciation of Hong Kong films.
