The Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development, Mr Gregory So, today (January 3) expressed his profound sadness at the passing of Mr Alphonso Wong (also widely known by his pen-name, Wong Chak), creator of the all-time classic comic series "Old Master Q".
"Mr Wong was a well-known local comic artist. He started the 'Old Master Q' series in the 1960s. With a unique drawing style, simple and hilarious storylines, the 'Old Master Q' series demonstrated the wide spectrum of life experiences and the different facets of lives in Hong Kong through different periods of time. The household names Old Master Q, Big Potato and Mr Chin accompanied countless Hong Kong people throughout their formative years and are still favoured by readers of different generations and age groups.
"I am saddened at the passing of Mr Wong and extend my deepest condolences to his family," Mr So said.
