The following is issued on behalf of the Hong Kong Film Development Council:
The Hong Kong Film Development Council (HKFDC) will stage the seven-day Hong Kong Films Exhibition 2013 in Guangzhou from August 19 to 25 to promote Hong Kong films.
The Secretary-General of the HKFDC, Mr Wellington Fung, and representatives of five Hong Kong films attended the contract signing ceremony of the film exhibition in Guangzhou today (August 8).
The film exhibition will feature the original Cantonese version of five Hong Kong films, namely "The Way We Dance", "Bends", "A Complicated Story", "Doomsday Party" and "A Secret Between Us". They will be screened in six theatres under the three cinema circuits of the China Film Southern Movie New-Lines Co Ltd, the Guangzhou Jinyizhujiang Movie Circuit Co Ltd and the Dadi Digital Cinemas Co Ltd.
Films participating in the exhibition will enjoy a shorter processing time in future applications for commercial release in Guangdong. This will help Cantonese Hong Kong films access the Guangdong market more expeditiously under the Mainland and Hong Kong Closer Economic Partnership Arrangement, with synchronised distribution in Hong Kong.
"The HKFDC hopes that the film exhibition helps promote the Cantonese version of Hong Kong films in Guangdong and expedite their importation for screening, thereby expanding the Guangdong market," Mr Fung said.
The film exhibition is a non-commercial cultural exchange activity endorsed and supported by the Radio, Film and Television Administration of Guangdong Province. It is organised with assistance by the Guangdong Film Industry Association, the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in Guangdong of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, the China Film Southern Movie New-Lines Co Ltd, the Guangzhou Jinyizhujiang Movie Circuit Co Ltd, and the Dadi Digital Cinemas Co Ltd.
