The following is issued on behalf of the Hong Kong Film Development Council:
The local premiere of the film "The Way We Dance" will be held this evening (August 2). This is the 15th film financed by the Film Development Fund (FDF) to be screened in Hong Kong. The estimated production budget for the film is $5.3 million and the amount of government finance is $2.12 million.
Directed by new director Mr Adam Wong, the film portrays a group of youngsters pursuing their dream of hip hop dance.
The Secretary-General of the Film Development Council, Mr Wellington Fung, said, "'The Way We Dance' is the third feature-length film directed by Mr Adam Wong. He has engaged new artistes and crew in the production, which gave impetus to this dance film for the young generation."
He added, "Through the FDF, we have financed films which engaged local upcoming directors. The scheme helps nurture talents and promote long-term development of the local film industry."
In October 2007, the Government injected $300 million into the FDF and expanded its scope to finance small to medium-budget film productions. To date, 27 applications have been approved involving total funding of $77.63 million.
