The Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development, Mr Gregory So, today (August 1) visited a fashion designer's studio and a garment wholesale market to learn more about the latest developments of the local fashion design and textiles and clothing industries.
The studio is the creative workshop of world-renowned fashion designer Ms Vivienne Tam. Ms Tam was educated in the then Hong Kong Polytechnic and has built up a successful career in the United States with numerous international awards.
She showed Mr So the design project that she was currently working on and guided him through a display of her past works.
"Ms Tam's achievement is testimony to the abundance of creative talents in Hong Kong. The Government will continue to focus on nurturing a pool of creative human capital to secure new blood for the industries," Mr So said.
Mr So then visited various garment wholesale outlets in Cheung Sha Wan as Ms Tam shared with him the concept of setting up a garment centre based on the New York City model.
"The Government will continue to promote the development of the fashion design and textiles and clothing industries for their contribution to the overall economy of Hong Kong," Mr So said.
