Create Hong Kong (CreateHK) is inviting the public to design comic mascots showcasing a vibrant, hip, caring and fresh Hong Kong. The winning designs selected by public voting will become ambassadors to promote the “Hong Kong: Our Home” Campaign as well as activities related to comics and animation.
Speaking on the competition today (May 27), the Head of CCIDAHK, Mr Jerry Liu, said, “Hong Kong is home to many outstanding designers of comic characters. The competition, organised by CCIDAHK and co-organised by the Hong Kong Digital Entertainment Association, aims to further promote the creation and appreciation of comic character design. It is also one of the core programmes of Hong Kong Ani-Com Summer 2013 to be held in July and August this year.”
The mascot design competition has four categories, corresponding to the four supporting themes under the “Hong Kong: Our Home” Campaign, namely “Vibrant Hong Kong”, “Hip Hong Kong”, “Caring Hong Kong” and “Fresh Hong Kong”. Entrants may participate in any or all of the four categories. Each category will have a champion, a first runner-up and a second runner-up.
A professional jury formed by representatives of comics and animation industry organisations, the education sector and the Government will shortlist three entries from each category, and the public will vote for the winners online.
Details of the competition and the entry form can be downloaded from the webpage of CreateHK at www.ccidahk.gov.hk/mascot. The deadline for submission of entries is June 26, 2013.
Hong Kong Ani-Com Summer 2013 is presented by CCIDAHK to promote the Comix Home Base, which will be officially opened in July, and to arouse interest in comics and animation in the community. It is one of the signature events under the theme of “Hip Hong Kong” in the “Hong Kong: Our Home” Campaign.
