The five-day Hong Kong Films Retrospective 2010 was launched today (Oct 18) in Shanghai, presenting 23 acclaimed Hong Kong movies to Mainland audiences uncut and in their original language.
The event, organised by the Hong Kong Film Development Council (FDC), is an official Hong Kong Special Administrative Region programme for World Expo 2010 Shanghai China.
It seeks to foster exchanges between Hong Kong and Shanghai on film culture and to help Hong Kong's film industry tap the Mainland market.
Officiating at the launching ceremony held at the Shanghai Film Art Centre today, the Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development, Mrs Rita Lau, said the Government was committed to promoting the long-term development of the Hong Kong film industry.
"The Closer Economic Partnership Arrangement has facilitated the tapping of the Mainland market by the Hong Kong film industry," said Mrs Lau.
"Film co-productions between the two places have begun to bear fruit with the number of co-produced films surging from about 10 per year before 2004 to around 30 per year now."
As well as the retrospective, the FDC will hold a business matching event, Hong Kong and Mainland Film Cooperation Business Matching, to provide a platform for Hong Kong new-generation directors to promote film projects to investors from the Mainland.
The retrospective includes a variety of renowned Hong Kong films from different eras.
Mrs Lau invited the Mainland audience not to miss the chance to see for themselves the nostalgia and creativity of Hong Kong-produced films. She also encouraged Mainland investors to participate actively in the business matching event.
The retrospective is co-organised by the FDC, the Shanghai Film Group, Shanghai United Circuit Co Ltd and the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in Shanghai, with Create Hong Kong of the Commerce and Economic Development Bureau as co-ordinator.
The 23 films to be shown from today to October 22 at the theatres of Shanghai United Circuit Co Ltd are: The Love Eterne, A Better Tomorrow, A Chinese Ghost Story, Aces Go Places, All About Ah-Long, All the Wrong Clues, An Autumn's Tale, City on Fire, Days of Being Wild, Eye in the Sky, Full Moon in New York, Heart to Hearts, I have a Date with Spring, Magic Boy, Mr Vampire, Mud Child, Pom Pom, Prison on Fire, Tangshan Tangshan, The 36th Chamber Of Shaolin, The Private Eyes, The Prodigal Son and Yes, Madam!
