Nine major activities themed on technology and creativity for the public and the industry will be staged by the Commerce and Economic Development Bureau and its partners (including the Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation (HKSTPC), Hong Kong Design Centre (HKDC), Hong Kong Cyberport Management Company Limited, Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC), Innovation and Technology Commission, etc.) in November and December under the Expo on Technology and Creativity 2010 (ETC 2010). These activities aim to enhance the community's awareness of technology and creativity and to further drive the development of the sectors.
Speaking at a press briefing to unveil details of the ETC 2010 today (October 5), the Deputy Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development (Communications and Technology), Mr Alan Siu, said: "By grouping together technology and creative industries activities including Innotech Month and Business of Design Week under the Expo umbrella, we seek to enhance the momentum and create an atmosphere conducive to the promotion of the innovation, technology and creativity culture in the community, thereby achieving a greater synergy effect."
The Innovation and Technology Commission will organise Innotech Month for the first time, featuring the key event InnoCarnival 2010 from November 6 to 14 in Hong Kong Science Park. The nine-day event will carry three main themes, namely Robotics Innovation and Technology, Intelligent Living and Elderly Care Applications, and Green Technology. More than 40 organisations, universities and research institutes will set up exhibition booths to showcase their latest research and development achievements. There will be innotech competitions, game booths, seminars and guided tours in the Carnival.
From November 29 to December 4, the internationally renowned Business of Design Week (BODW) to be staged by HKDC will gather design talent from all over the world in different seminars, forums and exhibitions to share their experience. Partnered with Japan this year, the BODW is an annual mega event to encourage the business sector to unleash creativity and tap the potential of quality design as a strategic tool to create business value.
To echo the BODW, Hong Kong Ambassador of Design, a sister organisation of HKDC, will organise DETOUR 2010. Masterpieces of designers from the Pearl River Delta region and 10 Hong Kong designers having engaged in exchange programmes in Tokyo will present a showcase for the public to feel the vibrancy of our creativity.
Concurrently, the HKTDC Inno Design Tech (IDT) Expo, organised by the HKTDC, will present innovative ideas, latest applied technology and design solutions to help enterprises enhance their competitiveness in international markets. Japan, also being the partner country of the Expo, will mount a sizeable pavilion to introduce the country's design and technology expertise.
Meanwhile, Hong Kong Electrical Vehicle (EV) Parade and Exhibition organised by CLP Power Hong Kong Ltd. from November 11 to 14 at Hong Kong Science Park will surely be a huge hit for visitors eager to gain first-hand knowledge about the latest developments of electric vehicles. They can take part in seminars, exhibitions, and ride and drive sessions.
Cyberport will organise Web 3.0 Asia from November 15 to 16 with training workshop, forum and exhibition to enlighten the participants on the market situation and investment strategies of the latest web technology and the opportunity it brings to the creative industries. Mr David Siegel, a renowned author and business guru who is described by the Harvard Business Review as the "Man about the Internet", and Mr Kaiser Kuo, Director of International Communications from Baidu, Inc., the world's largest Chinese language search engine, will be the keynote speakers in the summit.
Other activities of the ETC 2010 include HKSTPC's annual flagship conference - InnoAsia 2010 which aims to bring together academics, scientists, entrepreneurs and the business community of sustainable development from all over the world to exchange their experience and knowledge; Golden Egg Sunday; and Hong Kong Design Centre Awards Presentation Ceremony.
