The Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development, Mrs Rita Lau, will leave Hong Kong tonight (June 23) to attend the 2009 Ministerial Council Meeting of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) in Paris, France.
Mrs Lau will attend the Trade and Investment Session of the Ministerial Council Meeting on the agenda of "Keeping markets open for trade and investment". While in Paris, she will attend an informal meeting of trade ministers responsible for the World Trade Organization Doha Round negotiations to discuss how best to move the round forward to a successful conclusion.
Mrs Lau will then go to London where she will visit a number of leading establishments in the creative industry and have meetings with think-tankers and educators in culture and arts. These include a roundtable meeting with the creative industries chaired by the UK Minister of State for Trade and Investment, Lord Davies, a visit to Channel 4 the public service broadcaster, and a visit to Central Saint Martin College of Art and Design. She will also officiate at the London Hong Kong Dragon Boat Festival.
Mrs Lau will return to Hong Kong next Monday (June 29).
