The outstanding achievements of locally produced animations were commended today (March 25) at the 10th Digicon6 Awards Hong Kong Regional Competition Award Presentation Ceremony.
Addressing the ceremony, the Permanent Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development (Communications and Technology), Mr Duncan Pescod, praised the excellent quality and creativity of Hong Kong digital animations, including "Hidden Elders" by John Chan and Postgal Workshop which scooped the First Prize at the DigiCon6 Award 2008 (Hong Kong) and won the Grand Prize at the awards final in Japan.
"This is the best result achieved by Hong Kong animations so far in this prestigious international award. The outstanding productions has clearly demonstrated that the animation field is thriving in Hong Kong," Mr Pescod said.
"The episode combines two very different topics to develop a fascinating storyline - the very real social problems facing some of our older citizens and whether Santa Claus exists." he said.
Mr Pescod also congratulated three runners-up from the Hong Kong regional competition: "My Mother is an Alien" produced by the Classmates Productions; "That's Me" by Welby Chung, Frankie Chung and Chu Chu and the Crossfade Creative; and "Infection" by Joseph Lam.
The Hong Kong leg of DigiCon6 Awards is organised by the Hong Kong Productivity Council and its winners will be nominated to enter the final competition of the awards organised by the Japanese broadcaster Tokyo Broadcasting System, in Japan. Since its inception in 2006, many of the locally produced animations entered into the competition had been given the recognition they deserved for their outstanding quality and excellent creativity.
