The Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development, Mrs Rita Lau, will leave Hong Kong on September 11 to officiate at the opening ceremony of the Hong Kong exhibition at the 11th Venice Biennale International Architecture Exhibition in Venice, Italy, on September 12.
The Hong Kong exhibition, entitled "Fabrica Cultura (Culture Fabricate): Hong Kong in Venice", will feature the multiple facets and creativity of Hong Kong architecture and culture in six categories: object, buildings, landscape, city, media and text. Nine groups of local exhibitors, comprising architects, designers, photographers, performers and writer/critics, will showcase their interpretations of architecture on this international platform.
To encourage exchange and discussion between Hong Kong creative talents and their overseas counterparts, Mrs Lau will host a gala dinner on September 12. Guests will include representatives from overseas creative organisations, and leading architects and designers from the participating countries at the Architecture Biennale.
The Venice Biennale is a highly regarded and prestigious international cultural event which spans art, architecture, cinema, dance, music and theatre. The Architecture Biennale is held in even years. This year, it has presentations by a record 56 national participants. The Hong Kong exhibition is jointly presented by the Hong Kong Arts Development Council and the Hong Kong Institute of Architects and will be open to the public until November 23.
While in Venice, Mrs Lau will also meet with representatives of Veneto Region Chambers of Commerce and major entrepreneurs' associations. She will return to Hong Kong on September 14.
