The Secretary for Culture, Sports and Tourism, Mr Kevin Yeung, was saddened today (January 4) over the passing of renowned composer Joseph Koo, and extended his deepest condolences to his family.
Joseph Koo was a leading music composer, producer, and conductor in Hong Kong. He had produced numerous highly acclaimed movie and TV theme songs, including "Beneath the Lion Rock", "Shanghai Bund" and the theme songs of the TV series "The Legend of the Condor Heroes", which have become all-time classics, and he made great contributions to Hong Kong's pop culture development. Along with his outstanding musical creations and achievements, Koo received the Life Achievement Award of the Hong Kong Arts Development Awards 2010 by the Hong Kong Arts Development Council, and was awarded the Bronze Bauhinia Star and the Gold Bauhinia Star in 1998 and 2015 respectively.
Mr Yeung said, "Joseph Koo's works are evergreen pieces that have been a significant part of Hong Kong people's lives over the years, and have enriched the lives of Chinese people around the world. His spirit and the memorable touching melodies he created will be passed down from one generation to the next. We shall fondly remember him."
