The following is issued on behalf of the Hong Kong Film Development Council:
The local premiere of a new film partly financed by the Film Production Financing Scheme under the Film Development Fund (FDF), "Sunshine of My Life", will be held this evening (September 9).
"Sunshine of My Life" is produced by Edmond Wong and Ng Kin-hung, and directed and written by Judy Chu. Starring Kara Wai, Hugo Ng and Karena Ng, the film is based on the director's own family's story of blind parents and their sighted daughter.
The Chairman of the Hong Kong Film Development Council, Dr Wilfred Wong, said, "'Sunshine of My Life' is a touching film. With the cast's impressive interpretation of the visually impaired, it is believed that the film will help audiences further understand the world of the visually impaired."
He added, "The Government will continue to enhance local film production and nurture more film professionals through the FDF in order to promote the long-term development of the local film industry."
Since 2005, the Government has injected a total of $1.54 billion into the FDF to support a number of film production projects and other film-related projects. Since 2007, the FDF has financed 57 film projects, involving total funding of about $216.57 million. The production budget for "Sunshine of My Life" was around $10.40 million, with government finance amounting to about $2.39 million.
